Uniforms - Polish-Bolshevik War 1919 - 1921
During the Polish-Bolshevik War, the uniforms of the Polish Army were initially diverse,
mainly consisting of uniforms purchased from allies and captured from occupant armies.
These uniforms were supplemented with Polish insignia, yet this did not ensure uniformity.
In 1919, the Uniform Commission was established with the task of developing a project for a standardized Polish military uniform.
As a result of its efforts, the first standardized uniforms were introduced, commonly referred to as the WZ19 uniform.
The new attire, characterized by khaki color and patterns inspired by British and French uniforms,
also featured insignia indicating military ranks and regimental affiliations. Headgear varied depending on the type of unit; for instance,
infantry wore round caps, cavalry and horse artillery wore peaked caps, while other units had different types of headgear.
The uniforms not only emphasized functionality but also Polish national identity, which was significant in the context of the struggle for Poland's independence.
